I took this photo on Catherine Hill in Frome early in the morning, opposite a coffee shop. I was aiming to capture a sense of who this man is without seeing his face - it’s interesting how he still tells his story with his clothes, his black coffee, his pouch of tobacco, his attentiveness to his design magazine, and even the way his left hand finger and thumb rest in a meditative position. I composed the shot and cropped with Rule of Thirds in mind.
I used the ‘hero shot’ technique to capture my decorator in action. He’s over 6’, so an absolute gift for this challenge. I crouched down low at the bottom of the stairs to get the best angle.
